The Trump Administration to Issue 50% Food Stamp Funds in November

The federal government announced it would grant limited relief to numerous food stamp beneficiaries as the protracted federal closure neared a unprecedented period.

Benefit Cut Information

Amid increasing concern for the approximately 42 million people participating in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, the agriculture department confirmed it would employ contingency funds to continue assistance, albeit at just 50% of the standard allotment participants normally obtain.

Funding for the initiative formally expired on the weekend due to the federal closure, now in its thirty-fourth day with little indication of resolution.

Judicial Proceedings

The decision came in a judicial submission after earlier denials to issue critical funding on claimed legal grounds. A court had determined the government could not withhold program funds due to the shutdown.

After the court order, the president declared it would be "pleased" to provide necessary funding for the program.

Execution Hurdles

Officials indicated that benefits could commence by Wednesday, but stressed the need for further direction from the judiciary on how to lawfully reallocate money for SNAP support.

  • Several states have warned it will take days or even extended time to issue funds to low-income families.
  • Extended lines have been reported at charities around the country.
  • In multiple states, public facility car parks were transformed into help locations.

State Emergency Responses

Multiple authorities, such as New York, Oregon, and Virginia, announced states of emergency to supply temporary funds for benefits. However, these sums were expected to be a fraction of the normal national funding.

The national spending for SNAP total approximately $8 billion each month throughout the United States.
